Quote of the day - 5/31

The secret of a good sermon is to have a good beginning and a good ending,
then having the two as close together as possible.
George Burns US actor & comedian (1896 - 1996)

I just saw this and had to let y'all know. Going to church every week, this can be understandable. We are lucky to have a priest that has great sermons (homilies). Most of his openings involve something in his life, and can make things more relatable.

Would you like an easy way to get car insurance quotes for all 50 states? Just set aside a few minutes and check out free online car insurance quote. Whether it be online or over the phone, they can help you find a trusted partner and find a rate to suite your needs. And as an aside, Nancy Pierce, Regional VP of Geico in San Diego gives these helpful hints to reduce you chances your car will be the target of a theft (especially in California - which has 6 out of the top 10 places for vehicle theft):
1) Keep your vehicle locked at all times, even while
driving. Close all windows and sunroofs, no matter how hot it is. 2) Never leave
your keys in the car. 3) If possible, park in busy, well-lit areas. Thieves
prefer to work in the dark. Leave your car in park or in gear with the wheels
turned toward the curb or some other obstruction, so thieves won't be able to
tow it easily. 4) Avoid leaving valuables inside your vehicle where passersby
can see them. 5) Install an anti-theft system in your vehicle if it doesn't have
one. A mechanism that locks onto the steering wheel can be a very visible sign
that you've taken steps to protect your vehicle. Ignition cut-off systems
prevent a car from being started. Some new cars come with passive alarms that
activate automatically when the key is removed from the ignition. One system
emits a signal that can be tracked by the police. Thieves are reluctant to steal
vehicles that can be tracked and recovered quickly. Many insurers offer
discounts for these types of systems. 6) Beware of the "bump-and-rob" technique.
Carjackers bump your car from the rear, then steal it when you get out to look
for damage. When stopped at a traffic light, leave room to maneuver around the
vehicle ahead if you need to. If another car bumps yours and you feel
threatened, drive to a populated area. If you have a cell phone, call the police
for assistance. 7) Do not leave registration or title in the car. Too often a
car thief is pulled over and gets away from the police because he or she can
produce the auto registration. If multiple drivers use the vehicle, the best
suggestion would be to hide the registration in a secret location that only the
owners know. 8) Look around. Be aware of your surroundings, especially in
garages, parking lots and gas stations. 9) Know where you're going. Avoid known
high-crime areas even if the alternate route takes a little longer. 10) If
confronted by a carjacker, do not resist. Cars can be replaced; you can't. 11)
Have your car's vehicle identification number (VIN) etched on each of the
windows. Car thieves want to get off cheap. They don't want to go to the expense
of replacing all the glass. We provide auto insurance quotes for all 50
states!

Just over 24 hours..

In just over 24 hours I will be unemployed ..
Nah.. can't call it unemployed per se... I mean I will be a full time Mother.
Funny, before my fil died I had all these ideas... about how I could go shopping by myself while he was home with the kids, about how we all could go to the park, about stuff...
And now those wont happen.
And I will have to be stronger.
Kind of weird being at work knowing that I am almost done. My boss asked me today if I had checked out yet. I told her yep. Just getting done what I had to. She said that was allright.
We are having a going away party for me tomorrow!! Yippee! I sure hope a lot of people come... because for having 5 years on the job.. I deserve it!
And that reminds me.. yep.. made it to the 5 year mark on Monday!!! :-)

Awkward

So we went to the volunteer dinner at our church yesterday.  And instead of sitting with people we know, some people Nick had met asked us to sit with them.  And I felt Awkward.  I always feel so stupid in these kinds of social settings.  I am just waiting to say or do something that will brand me for the rest of my life.  I would have rather sat with people I knew.. who I could feel "normal" with.  And then the food wasn't the greatest.. so we ate, watched the "entertainment" and high tailed it out of there.

Then I came home and got nothing done.. and I need to get stuff done.  Clean the house, send out invites for Jeffrey's birthday party, etc.

Ah well.

What Kind of American English Do You Speak?

In the vain of that Yankee/Rebel quiz I posted about a couple weeks ago.. here is a blogger quiz:

Your Linguistic Profile::
65% General American English
20% Upper Midwestern
5% Dixie
5% Midwestern
0% Yankee

Yep... sounds about right since I am born and bred in the upper midwest... where our version of the English language is supposedly the most "normal".

H Day!

Yay! It is the middle of the week. This is when I can actually see the weekend coming. Funny how in 2 weeks days will just be that... not work days and non work days. Yep, 2 weeks from tomorrow!! Eek! Starting to actually get excited though. Of course, this means I have to actually clean off my desk and take a ton of stuff home... no clue where I am going to put it all.
Got a couple products to tell you about.... I was reading dooce.com and saw an advertising for this book:
And it looks quite funny. I was reading an excerpt about her first Mommy and Me program she went to.. kind of sounds like how I will feel if I turn into one of "those Moms". I am definetly putting this book on my wish list.
Also, a bunch of my online friends swear by Crocs:
They say they are the most comfortable shoes out there.. these are definetly going on my wish list as well.
Otherwise... Nick and I have a volunteer appreciation dinner to go to tonight at church... it will be nice to actually see him for more then 5 min!!!

Overall Update

Ok... I think I am finally starting to feel better.... some of my energy is returning.. and I am starting to feel "normal". Of course now I feel like I am getting a sty on my eye lid... great.
I didn't do a lot this weekend. Still was trying to recover. We did got out to dinner with my parents for Mother's Day.
Otherwise Nick is still so busy I hardly see him. And if he is not doing work he is doing something around the house... he has been trying to fix our water pipe for a week now.
Wow.. I thought I had more to say... maybe later.

Pink Eye!

How about that... two medical posts in a row... so last night I found I got Jeffrey's pink eye. Ick.. I think it is the first time I have had it. Luckily we got a refill for his drops so I am using his. It was so bad I woke up this morning and my one eye was matted shut.
Oh well.
I only hope that maybe I can feel better by Sunday - Mother's Day. And maybe it will get nice out... right now it is rainy and cold.
Yesterday I took the day off to go with Jeffrey on a field trip to Como Park (zoo and conservatory)... that can sure do a number on you when it is so cold out... but I think he had fun.. so...
Otherwise... TGIF! Not much planned this weekend but cleaning. I am going to try to go to a dinner to celebrate my oldest cousin's graduation from college! Nothing makes you feel old then when your younger brother or cousins are reaching new milestones.

Viral cold..

So I haven't posted in a couple of days.. woke up Sunday morning with a sore throat...which progressed to aches and pains on Monday.. so Tuesday I stayed home and went to the dr. Turns out I just have a viral cold that is going around and I really cannot take any antibiotics to get rid of it. Ick.
But at least the dr.'s visit wasn't a wash because I took Jeffrey with because he has pink eye. Double Ick.
We are having an issue with a water pipe leaking and had the water off for awhile Monday night/Tuesday morning.. so I was without water.. and our laundry room was full of water. No clue if it is fixed... Looks like Nick capped it for now. Triple Ick.
So my house looks like a tornado went through it.. I have no energy to clean it... we have tons of dirty clothes... and I don't get much help because Nick is so busy working.

S.aturday.

Hey all.... no clue what to title this... so that is why it is funny.
Haven't blogged much this week.. guess I did not feel like it.
Thursday I had to call in sick because Samantha said she did not feel good and it looked for a moment that she was going to throw up. So we both ended up going back to bed for 2 hours.. and it was probably a good thing because I felt like I had a cold and that probably kept it away.
Friday I gave my notice at work. My last day is June 1. I had a lot of nice comments from people when they found out saying that they will miss me and that I am lucky I can stay home. Still doesn't take away the nervousness. I was taking a shower today thinking, what have I done!!! But I can't take that back. And people said, I can always get another job. *sigh*
Last night Maggie the shih poo had her first sleepover. My friend Laura came and picked her up and then took her on the Walk for Animals. I guess she was perfect and walked the whole 5 miles. I will say, I missed the little fur ball!! Now she is home resting.
And today Jeffrey, Samantha and I went to the birthday party for Jeff's "girlfriend" S. Lot of fun.. except the part that Jeffrey missed singing Happy Birthday and he was kind of upset. Now I am tired, Samantha is sleeping and Jeffrey went with Nick to pick something up.. so I am having a moment of peace.
I suppose I should figure out something to do. Maybe dinner... and the race is on tonight.

Why do people like you so much?

I was having a conversation with Nick late last night (because that is usually the only time I can really catch up to him, between him being so busy and having the kids and Fil around), and I asked him, "Why do people like you so much?"  See, lately he has been asked by different people to assume different leadership roles around our church.  Some of these people he has known maybe a couple months, maybe this "school year".  I wondered how they could see something in him, even if they hardly know him.

Of course it doesn't help that I am going through my own identity crisis.  One where I doubt who I am and, even bigger, what I am good at.  I doubt anyone would go up to me and ask me to join anything.

For Nick, it probably comes down to that he is a great salesperson... and that shines through in anything he does.  He could sell a boat in the Arizona Desert.

And for me, I suck at sales.
On another note, I was telling my friend Rox how I feel my brain is turning into mush.  I wonder could it be because I had two kids, or is it because I am not challenged to use it in my job.  Who knows?

Well last weekend was pretty busy.  We had the starlight ball on Saturday.  Nick looked great (and young) in black pants, shirt and fedora.  I looked young period in one of my formal dresses (that actually fit me).  Sunday I went and scrapped with some of my online Scrapshare friends, Jenny in MN, Stacie and Amy in MN.  Sunday night was our last night of Alpha and we had a fabulous dinner at the coordinators house.   Then Monday it was back to the grindstone.
